Light: how much does your location really give?

Light drives growth. Historical light data shows you how much you can count on, and when you need help from screens or assimilation lighting.

Three terms you will see in a report

Solar radiation is the energy of the sun that reaches your location. It is the starting point for everything else.

PPFD (photosynthetic photon flux density) tells you how much of that light plants can use at a given moment. DLI (daily light integral) adds that up over a whole day. DLI is the number most growers use to plan light.

Why history beats a gut feeling

Light differs a lot between seasons, and also between years. A report shows ten years of light at your location, so you see the normal pattern and also the dull years. That is the real range you have to plan for.

  • How many days per year are below what your crop needs?
  • When does assimilation lighting pay off, and for how many hours?
  • How often is there so much sun that you need shading or a screen?
  • How different is your location from the next town or region?

Use it for your next light decision

Whether you are thinking about assimilation lighting, a new screen or a different crop, start from your own numbers. A Climate-Data report gives you the light history of your exact location, and I can help you read it.
